Improve Your Link Campaign - Create Related Link Phrases

Posted by admin 16 March, 2007

The most important part of a SEO’s job is to create link phrases that describe the focus of your website. Submitting to search engines is a waste of time because search engines locate your site by following inbound links. Concentrate on building your inbound links with strong phrases that relate to your sites’ content and offering. When building a relationship with a link partner, keep in mind that you’re offering content their users could use. Think about the whole picture when developing your link campaign. Linking relationships should be built based on the content of your site.

For example, if your website is in the pet food genre, have your link partners link with the following anchor text:
dog food
cat food
hamster food
bird treats
etc
Your link partners would link to your main page or a specific page on your website and having the above keywords visible on their webpage.

By developing good content, you are creating value for your link and increasing your chances of search engines spidering your site. Related linking and content is the key to having a successful website.

What concerns me is that if creating great links gives you a high page ranking and everyone iis creating lots of good links, than it is only reasonable to conclude that all pages will still be ranked the same. What I mean is all those pages that were ranked higher than yours will still be ranked higher. Does this make sense?

Overseas property is very competitive to get anywhere in the search engines linking is essential. We have been trying swapping links from webmaters with several sites in order to get one way inbound links which are more powerful. What is a mystery to me is how google selects which links count as a link for them. We have thousands but only a hundred or so in Google

Creating links in general does not get you high rankings, creating links with relativity and importance create high rankings.

You are correct in this statement:
“it is only reasonable to conclude that all pages will still be ranked the same”

The difference is how effective your campaign is in comparison to others. Effectiveness can be measured by the following:
- Pagerank of other RELATED sites linking to you.
- Complementary sites that link to you (for example, you sell windshield wipers and another company sells car windshields)
- How well your keywords are placed on your site. Does your content contain keywords that you would like to be found under.
- Are your link partners creating anchor text that relates to your site when they link to you …
etc

No one knows EXACTLY how Google does the rankings but common sense would tell you that the more RELATED websites linking to you, the more important you are seen in your industry.

You need to look at it this way:
If others are working on a linking campaign and you’re not, wont you fall behind?

Google only indexes links that it finds are “real” and “relative”
Although they havent perfected the algorithm yet (they still show unrelated links), they are defintely improving this. They will eventually get to a point where unrelated links wont count at all.

Have a read at Google’s websites for a brief explanation:

Also, have a look at the Google Blog, some good information there.
